Whitmill Trust sponsor Doreen Hennesey Good Friday Walk in aid of Jersey Hospice Care

14 March 2016

Jersey Hospice Care is inviting islanders to start their Easter weekends with a morning stroll along Jersey’s Esplanade. The Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk takes place on Friday 25 March, starting at West Park from 09.00 with a walk along the Esplanade to St Aubin and back.

Frederick Deacon, Director at Whitmill Trust said, “Whitmill Trust are pleased to sponsor the Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk in aid of Jersey Hospice. We admire and respect the team at Jersey Hospice for the invaluable service they provide to patients and their families. So many people within our organisation have been personally touched by the support and services they provide.  We therefore feel it is important to raise awareness of the fantastic work that is being done, and help raise funds so as to ensure that Jersey Hospice is there for each and every family and patient in our community. No one should go through end of life care feeling alone or frightened. The Jersey Hospice team provides hope and compassion to all those in need.”

Walkers can register beforehand from Jersey Hospice Care’s website or just turn up on the morning. Chocolate Easter eggs will be given to all children under 12 taking part. Local band, Run for Cover are supporting the event, helping to get the walkers started and there will be refreshments at the half way point at St Aubin.

The very first walk was organised by islander Doreen Hennessy to raise money to help buy an MRI scanner for Jersey’s General Hospital. The walk was such a success that it became an annual event and Jersey Hospice Care was then chosen as the charity to benefit thereafter. The event has raised over £210,000 for the charity over the years.

Emelita Robbins, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “The walk is perfect for families, as well as a lovely way to mark the start of the Easter weekend. ‘We are delighted to welcome Whitmill Trust as new sponsors for this year, enabling us to provide Easter Eggs for all under 12s taking part, as well as covering the event costs.”

Registration and sponsorship forms are available from jerseyhospicecare.com.
